Notorynchus cepedianus (Peron, 1807)

Seven-gill shark

Named for noted French naturalist the Compte de la Cépède, 1756-1825. He was also known as Lacépède.

Range: Probably worldwide.

Diagnosis: A large, blunt-snouted shark with seven gill slits, an anal fin, and small black spots on the body.
