ORDER MARSUPIALIA: Pouched mammals

Marsupials are mammals that produce poorly developed young that finish gestation attached to nipples inside the pouch of the mother. They are an old group, distributed today in the Americas, New Guinea, and Australia. It is in Australia where marsupials have reached their pinnacle in terms of species diversity, including kangaroos, koalas, Tasmanian devils, cuscuses, and many others.
