Range: Shallow ocean waters and reefs from eastern Africa to the Fiji islands.

Diagnosis: A compressed silvery fish with two thin black bands and an orange finger-shaped dorsal fin.

Description: A small (to 235 mm) schooling fish that is typically found in coral reefs and mangrove swamps in the Old World tropics.

Natural History: An alert active fish that is often kept in aquariums, where it requires brackish or marine water to survive.
