Tree and mangrove monitors
Though these lizards may not at first seem to
belong together, the elongate and graceful tree monitors share many features
with the stouter semiaquatic mangrove monitors. Among the similarities are:
- Enlarged supraocular scales,
- Similar hemipenial structure,
- Nostrils located midway (or nearly so)
between the snout tip and the eye,
- Long, thin digits.
