FAMILY EUBLEPHARIDAE Geckos that posses moveable, closeable eyelids, soft small-scaled skin, and lack adhesive pads on the toes. The vertebrae are procoelous and there is a single parietal bone. This is a small family of tropical/subtropical species found in the Americas, Africa, and Asia. Included are familiar "pet" lizards such as North American banded geckos (genus Coleonyx), African fat-tail geckos (Hemitheconyx) and the very popular leopard gecko (Eublepharis macularius, illustrated here).
