Description:
In life this is a bright orange-red squid with large dark eyes.
|

Natural History:
Until the 1990s this species was a total enigma t zoologists. It was
finally observed and videotaped by ROVERs from the Monterey Bay Aquarium
Research Institute.

Taxonomy & Relationships:
Still poorly known, but it is conceded that vampire squids represent a
bridge species between octopuses and squids.
